A petition asking parents to allow Kobe Bryant to attend his parents day at the Eden Gardens park in New Delhi was recently passed by a district magistrate.
The petition, filed by Kaleen Bhatti, a mother and father, has received over 1,200 signatures.
“Kobe was supposed to go on a father’s day this year but has not come to visit us yet,” she said.
“His parents have been visiting me for a while now but they were never allowed to see him.”
The petitioners say the reason for not allowing Kobe’s parents to visit is because they are “not part of our family”.
Kaleena Bhattis petition was registered on September 29.
“I am not sure why my son has not been allowed to go to visit his parents because I am a parent.
I am not allowed, even to see my children.
I have been waiting for Kobe for nearly three years.
He is the most important person in my life,” she told NDTV.
Kaleesh Bhatt, who is a former member of the Indian Football Federation and the Indian Basketball Association, also has a petition in the same court.
“We don’t allow him to see his parents and our family.
We do not want him to go anywhere with us,” she added.
The issue of allowing Kobe to visit was raised after a few months of negotiations.
When the two teams met at the Asia Cup in January, the Indian players and the coach, Gyanendra Singh, held a press conference and expressed their disappointment.
“The team is not happy with us.
We want to go ahead with the game but the Indian team has not agreed to it,” said Singh.
“It is a decision made by the Indian federation and it is a big issue,” Bhatt said.
In the meantime, Kalees Bhatt is trying to get her son to visit.
“My son is not going to be with us, he is not allowed,” she explained.
“But he will be with the other players and we will make sure he goes to meet his parents.
I will make arrangements.
I know that it is not easy for him.
I do not know how to talk to him.
He has never seen me.
I hope that he will come and meet me,” she insisted.
