Talking parents and cat parents alike are thrilled by the new season of The Simpsons, which is streaming on Netflix.
The animated sitcom debuted on April 18, 2016, with its debut episode, “The Family Business,” taking a more adult approach to the character of Homer Simpson.
But the show hasn’t been without its fair share of controversy.
After the series premiered, critics accused the show of portraying a “racist caricature” of white Americans, with a black character being referred to as “little black man” (an apparent reference to the Ku Klux Klan).
In 2017, a New York Times review called the show “one of the most racist comedies ever made.”
In the aftermath of the show’s airing, some critics accused The Simpsons’ creators of being complicit in the show being racist, and some of the series’ most notable stars, including Seth MacFarlane, Matt Groening and Justin Timberlake, have called for the show to be cancelled.
