Lenny Kravitz’s parents are in talks about setting up a parenting portal for their daughter.
“It’s been a real rollercoaster of emotions and how to handle this, but she’s really the one person who’s always pushed me to go the extra mile to try to make sure that I make sure her experiences are safe,” Kristen Welker said.
Kristen and her husband were in Lenny’s house when the bullying started in March.
The bullying became more extreme, but their daughter still struggled to find the right balance of being safe in the house and safe in her school.
Lenny’s mother, Kristen, said the bullying continued until the end of March, when she took her daughter to the hospital for a checkup.
“[The bullying] was so severe that I knew that she needed to be safe in that house and I thought that she should stay in her room,” Kristens told ABC News.
It was after that visit to the ER that Kristen found out about the portal and what to do next.
When Kristen asked if she could be the first to sign up for the portal, Lenny said, “No.”
Lucky for her, Kristens was in luck.
She and her parents, who are also educators, got together to start the parenting portal and started an online survey about how they could help.
After the portal was launched, Lizzy and Kristen started meeting with their child and talking about how the bullying would affect their daughter, Kristening said.
“We said, ‘This is what we want to do.
We want to find out what you’re feeling, what you need, and then help you with whatever you need to do to be a better person,'” she said.
Kristen Welkers have been meeting with Lizzy in the past few months and have been able to keep Lizzy’s school and school staff informed about what is going on at her school, which is in a high-poverty neighborhood.
With that in mind, the Welkers decided to set up the portal for Lizzy to help her navigate her school community.
“It would be a real relief to know that the people at the school are being really supportive and understanding and trying to keep the peace,” Kristina said.
Lizzy Welker has learned a lot about the bullying since she joined the parenting team at the family business.
During one of her first meetings with her teacher, she asked about bullying.
The teacher, who is white, explained to Lizzy that there is no way to tell how much bullying is happening because the bullies don’t want to be bullied.
“She just looked at me like, ‘I don’t know if you’re going to believe this, because I know that you know a lot more than you think you know,'” Lizzy recalled.
Lizzie is now a member of the Parent Portal Network, a group of educators who have been on the front lines of bullying prevention efforts.
“I was in a really good place in terms of being able to connect with my teachers, but I also was having to deal with all of the other stuff that they had to deal as well, and I just wasn’t doing it as well as I could have been,” Lizzy said.
