The power school portal on the PowerSchool website has raised eyebrows with a list of questions that parents should answer to get the latest information about their child’s progress.
The list includes:When a child gets a disability, what can parents do?
How do I know if the child is eligible for a special education voucher?
What are special education requirements?
Who decides what to do about a disability?
What do I do when the child’s parents get a disability complaint?
Who can help me?
The answers to those questions have come in the form of a questionnaire, which asks parents how they have managed their child and how they would respond to a disability complaints filed by parents with children with disabilities.
The questionnaire, launched by PowerSchool parents on Monday, has raised questions and concerns about the inclusion of parents with a disability in the portal.
PowerSchool portal is a portal that allows parents to connect with their child with disabilities in India.
Its mission is to provide them with a platform to support and educate their child.
Power School portal also connects parents with their children with a wide range of services including health care, school, tutoring and other services.
The portal asks parents whether their child qualifies for a Special Education Certificate or if the parents would like to file a complaint against the school.
The query is not an exact science but PowerSchool is an easy way for parents to get answers.
“When a person gets a special needs assessment or when the disability gets diagnosed, it is very important that they are able to answer these questions.
We also need to know the status of their disability.
If they have a disability and the child does not have a special need, they need to be aware of the possibility of a disability,” PowerSchool parent Arvind Pachauri told TOI.
Pachauri added that the query was a “very easy one”.
“When you see the list of queries, it’s easy to say, ‘I don’t know what to write.
Why should I?’.
But we do need to make it clear that we are not saying that we do not care about your child’s disability,” he added.
Parents have been asked to fill out the questionnaire on PowerSchool, which was created by a group of parents to empower their children to access the best available education in India and help them meet their academic and personal goals.
The parents have been sharing their experiences of their child, with a view to providing information to the portal, Pachaur said.
The parent portal is being developed by an NGO called the Education for All, which aims to empower parents with the knowledge to improve their child´s education.
The project is being run by a consortium of organizations, including the Confederation of Indian Industry, the World Bank, World Health Organisation and the World Economic Forum, Pichaur added.
“We are looking to ensure that the parents are aware of what their child needs.
If a parent has a disability that is not a disability of the child, we need to understand it, and we need the parents to be able to help their child,” he said.
