Reddit’s parent subreddit has long been a hotbed of controversy for its heavy focus on drama and harassment of children, including rape and murder threats.
But today, the subreddit’s parent tag has become the latest tool for Redditors to express their anger at their parent’s behavior.
A post titled “I’m not cool with this,” which was posted by a user named r/parent, has been making the rounds on the site since Sunday.
“What the fuck is this?” the user wrote, according to The Washington Post.
“I hate this.
It makes me sick.
My family is not nice.
I don’t know how anyone can feel good about their own parents.”
The post then went on to detail how they felt about their parents’ behavior, including how they “feel horrible about our dads’ abuse, even though we know he is a horrible human being.”
“It hurts,” one user wrote.
“It hurts because we’ve known our dads for a while, and he’s just a horrible, bad person.
But, as much as I want to say it’s all in our heads, it’s just something that happens to us.”
Reddit users are encouraged to post comments and questions about their parent(s), asking them how they feel about their relationship, whether or not they feel okay about it, and how they would feel if they were their parent.
Some commenters on r/Parenting shared their thoughts about their family.
One user named peterf wrote: “My mom was a wonderful mom.
She was very loving and supportive.
She treated us all with respect.
She’s my hero.
My mom is a good person.
We had great times together and we’re still together.
I know I’m not alone.
I love my mom and she is the best.”
Another user named holly wrote:”It’s not just my mom.
I’ve been told that my father was abusive, and that my mom didn’t care.
I just want my dad to know that I love him, that he cares about me, and I will never be that person who says, ‘Mom, you’re the worst parent.’
I just don’t understand why my mom was treated like that.”
Another post from another user named tasha_saved_my_self said: “I have two boys, ages 9 and 10.
My dad has been an alcoholic, drug addict, and borderline personality disorder.
I hate my dad, and it’s made me feel very sad and angry.
I’m very upset that he got fired and the internet is full of rage about it.”
The subreddit’s tagline, however, has become a controversial tool for users to vent their anger and hurt.
In February, the Reddit community banned a user for making a post that included a photo of himself with a dead baby.
The user, called Pregnant, later apologized for the post.
