An 11-month-old baby is the new “black mom” in the family.
The biracial baby has her own page on the Facebook page of an Arkansas family with two black and two white kids, and her mother is posting pictures of her to share her journey to becoming a mom.
“My wife and I were just really excited about the birth of my first child,” Brittany Batson told ABC News.
“My mom had been a nurse for a while and had a really great relationship with her family and they had never done anything that I wanted to do.
I had never had a baby before, and it was just such a blessing that we could do it.”
Batson and her husband, Michael, were able to get a private room at a local hospital to deliver their baby girl.
They told ABC affiliate WREG that they were able access the private room because they wanted the babies to be able to breathe and be able eat their food.
“We didn’t want them to feel like they were going to starve to death,” Brittany said.
The babies face unique challenges with the white parents.
Brittany and Michael say they have a white father, but are not sure what that is about.
“They’re just so sweet,” Brittany explained.
“I don’t think it’s the same thing that they did.
I think they just kind of let their guard down and they just had a little bit of a reaction.”
The baby is currently staying with the family’s aunt.
“She’s doing great,” Brittany added.
